Recognition in the community

Find your path to community contributions and earn a badge that shows the world what you built.

How it works

Contribute. Register. Get recognized.

Register your GitHub and contact information, then keep contributing in the ways that matter to you. When you meet the criteria for a community contribution, we award a Credly badge you can share on your profile, resume, and social channels.

Need a place to start?

Sessions make contribution less mysterious.

Whether you're ready to contribute or still figuring out where to start, there's a session for that.

Common questions

About registration

How do I register?

Fill out the opt-in form once. No annual renewal needed. You'll provide your GitHub handle and the email address where you'd like your Credly badges delivered, and you're set.

Why do you need my GitHub handle and email?

Your GitHub handle is how we track your community contributions. Your email goes to Credly, the platform that delivers your badges. It's what connects your work to your inbox.

Do contributions from earlier in the year count?

Yes. You need to be registered for the current calendar year, but contributions made before you registered still count. Register in March and your January contributions are included. Prior years are not retroactively included. The clock resets each January 1.

Can I update my registration details?

Yes. If your GitHub handle or preferred email changes, reach out to badges@sharing.ms and we'll get it updated.

About badges

What is Credly and do I need an account?

Credly is the digital credential platform where your badges live. You'll need an account to claim and share them, but there's no need to set one up in advance. When your first badge arrives you'll be walked through creating one. You can also associate multiple email addresses with a single Credly account.

Where can I share my badge?

Anywhere. Credly includes built-in share buttons for LinkedIn and other channels. We highly encourage it. Every badge you share helps someone else discover that contributing to this community gets recognized.

How long does it take to receive a badge?

Badges are processed on a regular basis by community volunteers, so there's no fixed schedule. The timeline can ebb and flow depending on availability, but your badge will arrive.

What if I don't receive my badge email?

Check your spam folder first. If it's not there, reach out to badges@sharing.ms and we'll track it down.

Can I earn more than one badge?

Yes. There's no limit to how many you can earn, and each badge clearly lists what's required. Each individual badge can only be earned once. Some are special editions, available only during specific time windows or tied to events like hackathons.

Do badges expire?

Never. Once a badge is yours, it's yours for good.
